About Safe to Learn
Safe to Learn is a global initiative working to end violence in, around, and through schools
Across countries and contexts, children and young people consistently tell us the same thing: feeling safe is the foundation for learning and well-being. Yet millions still face bullying, corporal punishment, gender-based violence, online harms, and attacks on their education. These experiences don’t just cause harm – they disrupt learning, limit opportunities, and undermine children’s rights.
Who we are
Safe to Learn is a coalition that brings together governments, multilateral and bilateral agencies, civil society organizations, children, youth and survivor networks, and the private sector around one shared goal: ensuring every child has a safe and enabling place to learn.
This diversity is one of our greatest strengths: it enables us to inform policy, improve practice, generate evidence, and support change at scale.
What we do
Safe to Learn is more than a partnership – it is a shared platform for collaboration, connection, and collective action to keep safe schools high on global regional and national agendas.
The coalition acts as a catalyst, helping countries accelerate progress and strengthen accountability.
As a global coalition, Safe to Learn:
- Aligns efforts across sectors: We bring together expertise from education, child protection, gender, health and justice to drive coordinated action on violence prevention and response in schools.
- Elevates evidence, learning, and innovation: By sharing research, tools, and promising practices, we help governments and partners adopt approaches that are proven to work.
- Strengthens political commitment and accountability: We convene Ministers, development partners, civil society, child, youth and survivor advocates, to keep safe schools a global priority and to hold ourselves collectively accountable for progress.
- Supports countries to embed system-wide approaches: We help governments use standards, diagnostics, and whole-school frameworks to integrate violence prevention into laws and policies, sector plans and budgets, and school and community level interventions.
- Champions the voices and leadership of children and young people: Young people are central to Safe to Learn. We support platforms and initiatives that elevate their experiences, insights, and solutions.
