School violence: Why gender matters and how to measure school-related gender-based violence
Brief on measuring school-related gender-based violence
UNESCO and UNGEI
This brief examines gender as a key driver of school-related gender-based violence (SRGBV) and presents a framework for measuring its prevalence using existing data. This brief was commissioned in 2021 by the Global Working Group to end School-Related Gender-Based Violence (SRGBV), co-chaired by UNESCO and the UN Girls’ Education Initiative (UNGEI). Drawing on the deliberations of an expert working group of fifteen experts, it outlines indicators to support analysis of SRGBV and situates the issue within the Sustainable Development Goals framework, highlighting the links between safe, inclusive schools and gender equality.
