The Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) joins the Safe to Learn Coalition

2 September 2026 - Safe to Learn is pleased to welcome the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) as its newest Coalition partner. FAWE is a pan-African membership organization working to advance gender equality in and through education. Founded in 1992, FAWE works through a network of 33 National Chapters across sub-Saharan Africa. It works closely with governments, schools, communities, young people and development partners to address structural, social and gender-related barriers that prevent girls and young women from accessing, participating in and completing quality education.

FAWE’s leadership and experience are highly relevant to Safe to Learn’s mission. Violence in and around schools is both a child protection and education challenge, and it is often shaped by gender norms, discrimination and exclusion. FAWE brings deep technical expertise in gender-responsive education, long-standing relationships with ministries of education and gender, and practical country-level experience supporting learning environments where girls and all marginalized learners can feel safe, valued and able to thrive.

As part of the Safe to Learn Coalition, FAWE will help connect global commitments with national action across Africa. Its network of National Chapters offers a powerful platform for advocacy, evidence generation and dialogue with decision-makers, educators and communities on what it takes to make schools safer and more inclusive for every learner.

Together, Safe to Learn and FAWE will work to elevate African leadership, strengthen gender-transformative approaches to preventing and responding to violence, and ensure that the voices and experiences of learners, educators and communities inform action at every level.
