Laying the foundation for non-violent childhoods: putting prohibition of corporal punishment of children into practice

Law reform alone will not eliminate corporal punishment. This guidance aims to provide practical information to support the implementation of laws prohibiting corporal punishment in all settings. Education and preventative measures are necessary to increase awareness of the harm of corporal punishment to children, to inform about children’s right to protection and to provide an essential foundation for social norm and behaviour change.
