NCMEC launches upgraded Cybertipline
The National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) has launched its new and improved CyberTipline
The National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) has launched its new and improved CyberTipline. Funded by End Violence through the Safe Online portfolio, the CyberTipline has now been modernized to better protect children - it takes reports of suspected child sexual exploitation from both tech companies that identify exploitation on their platforms and from members of the public.
The CyberTipline is an accessible and essential place to report child sexual exploitation. The upgraded portal now gives more access for victims and families to NCMEC support resources and collects additional information that can help NCMEC and law enforcement. It also improves the experience for survivors and members of the public when making a report.
The magnitude of exploitation and abuse against children is appalling. In 2022, there were more than 32 million reports made to NCMEC among which it identified 49,000 urgent reports that involved children in imminent danger.
The CyberTipline is a crucial tool that will help in prompt prevention and response. The CyberTipline operates in partnership with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
The Safe Online initiative has been investing in building capacities, systems and cutting-edge technology solutions to tackle online harm to children, generate knowledge and evidence, and advocate for policies and regulations to make the internet safe for children. The portfolio has grown to $77 million invested in 100+ projects with impact on more than 80 countries.
